Laparoscopy For Endometriosis

Laparoscopy For Endometriosis

Best endometriosis doctor in Bangalore

Laparoscopy is the gold standard modality to diagnose endometriosis . This technique is used to diagnose and treat endometriosis. Small cuts are made in the abdomen and a thin tube laparoscope, with a camera and light is attached to it.

Visualisation of pelvic organs is done to see any endometrial tissue and this is cauterised . Endometriomas ( choclate cyst of the ovary as it is popularly called ) are excised if present. This is the most effective form of treatment.Sometimes heat or laser energy ( called ablation ) is used to remove the endometrial tissue.

The surgeon uses specialized surgical instruments that are inserted through these small cuts and the procedure is performed. Looking for the best endometriosis doctor in Bangalore? Then visit Dr Sunil eshwar today.

Procedure

Laparoscopic cystectomy is performed using specialized instruments and a laparoscope, which is a thin, lighted tube with a camera that allows the surgeon to see the cyst and surrounding tissue on a video monitor. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and can take several hours, depending on the size and location of the cyst.

Here are the general steps involved in a laparoscopic cystectomy:

  • It is done under general anesthesia, where the woman is not conscious .
  • 2 to 3 small (0.5 cm)incisions are made in the abdomen to allow for the insertion of the laparoscope and other surgical instruments.
  • The pelvic and reproductive organs are examined through the videolaparoscope.
  • Normal pelvic anatomy is examined or any adhesions, cysts, and scar tissue if present are tackled .A biopsy of any abnormal tissue to confirm the diagnosis.
  • If endometriosis is present, specialized instruments are used to remove or destroy the abnormal tissue. Depending on the extent of the endometriosis, this may involve removing adhesions, cysts, or tissue that has grown outside of the uterus.
  • Once the surgery is done, the instruments are removed and the incisions are closed with sutures.

Time taken for laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis takes around 1-2 hour and this depends on size site and extent and location of endometriosis.

It is a simple surgery then the patient is discharged the same day . If the surgery was complicated then a 2 day stay would be advised till recovery and the patient is ambulated passed urine and moved her bowels.
